Virtual teams work across several remote locations. And virtual teamwork can take on very different forms: from occasionally working from home to teams that only know each other through video conferencing – the spectrum is broad. And things get even more challenging when the team leader is only able to manage their team remotely. But it is something that can be learned and practiced.

When does virtual collaboration work well, and how can a virtual team deliver results that are just as good as a “traditional” team? How do you build trust in the context of virtual collaboration? How do team members communicate efficiently while remaining approachable and empathetic – without or only with limited personal contact? How do you organise collaboration to achieve the desired outcome? How do you lead and guide a virtual team? How can conflicts be spotted and dealt with? What tools are useful in particular situations? Together with the other participants, in this training we will help you answer these questions and develop individual solutions. After all, there’s no blueprint that works equally well for every team.

This training is designed for managers and members of virtual teams, HR personnel and freelancers who work remotely.

The goal is to develop a better understanding of virtual team dynamics and to learn mechanisms and methods to greatly improve communication, conflict resolution and decision-making in virtual teams. Incidentally, you will also have the chance to improve your own very personal set of virtual team skills.

  • Developing virtual teams: building trust and creating clear structures in virtual spaces
  • Proper use of communication media: overcoming distance through technology
  • Managing virtual collaboration: establishing routines and processes
  • Facilitation techniques: facilitating virtual meetings successfully
  • Remote management: giving feedback and leading remotely
  • Fostering team culture: trust, identity and relationships
  • Making diversity work for you: handling diversity within the team
  • Self-reflection and feedback on virtual team skills

Using a preliminary online assessment, we identify your problems and requirements in the area of virtual teamwork. We also get an overview of the tools and technologies you are already using. Depending on your needs, we select focus areas for the training: communication, moderation and facilitation, conflict resolution or virtual team management?

Regardless of the topical focus of the training, we work with practical simulations to give participants an opportunity, for example, to test out the organisation and facilitation of team meetings or decision-making sessions. We assess the experiences and challenges interactively during the discussions with the other participants. At the end, you will have a acquired good set of useful tips and tools from our trainers.

Trainer

Depending on the number of participants and needs, we provide one, two or a whole team of trainers. We consider expertise and experience in the particular field but, more importantly, we make sure the trainer is a good match for your organisation. Our motto: A good fit – with healthy dose of contrast.
