For many organisations, “routine tasks” are a thing of the past. Today, work comes in the form of projects with a fixed start and end date. This is where project management comes into play, because no project can be successfully steered and completed without it. Especially when it comes to more complex projects – such as working in international teams or projects spanning several years – a variety of stakeholders and interests have to be considered and actively involved into the process.

This is where the tools and principles of project management help you plan and complete projects not just effectively but also efficiently. But project managers need more than just good tools; they also need to possess the ability to employ the right instrument properly depending on the situation. While long-term, detailed planning can be a useful for projects with relatively calculable risks, volatile conditions call for more agile tools that allow for a dynamic response.

This training is designed for employees and managers in charge of planning, managing and carrying out smaller as well as more complex projects in the context of their work. If you are interested in acquiring the basic skills and a solid footing for making decisions independently and confidently in your role as project manager, this is the right training for you.

Participants gain an overview (depending on their needs) of classic as well as agile methods and applications in project management. You will become familiar with project phases as well as the appropriate instruments and tools for planning and carrying out future projects. We like to work on actual situations from your day-to-day work to ensure you are able to apply your new knowledge after completing the training. We also address common pitfalls: what stumbling blocks are especially common? How can these be avoided from the outset? That way, participants can tackle their next project with specific ideas and more confidence.

  • Understanding success factors in project management (where appropriate, taking into account organisation-specific requirements)
  • Becoming familiar with methods and application areas for project cycle management
  • Conducting stakeholder analyses and organising communication with stakeholders
  • Defining project goals and performance indicators
  • How to use instruments for project structure planning wisely
  • How to use instruments for time and resource planning wisely
  • Familiarising yourself with and using agile methods to manage projects
  • Reflecting on and communicating the role of the project manager
  • Project planning for the long-term and learning from mistakes

Based on a preliminary assessment, we identify requirements and case studies from your organisation and then work on them during our training sessions. Each of various training modules is introduced with some brief input. The participants then apply the instruments and methods to their own practical examples and test the impact. By reflecting on the experiences, participants gain confidence in using methods and immediately apply their new knowledge to their particular situations.

Depending on the number of participants and your needs, we provide one, two or a whole team of trainers. We consider expertise and experience in the particular field but, more importantly, we make sure the trainer is a good match for your organisation. Our motto: A good fit – with healthy dose of contrast.
